How much gold can I get from computer scrap?

recycling electronicAmount of electronics waste increases annually as the technology provide us so many new things. We all want to buy new computer or upgrade existing one with new parts inside, also there are phones and tablets and they all contain gold inside. Every piece of electronic scrap contains recyclable materials inside and for modern industry it is important to separate all these materials for reuse them in production line.

Recycling electronic scrap industry saves money. For example, one metric ton of electronic scrap that is collected from personal computers can provide more gold than it can be recovered from 17 metric tons of gold ore.

Recycling process turns used computers into raw materials which can be used for making new products. With this action we all conserve natural resources and reduce pollution of our planet. With recycling processes manufacturing plants reduce their expenses with smaller energy consumption.

Metals that we can find in PC’s are aluminum, antimony, arsenic, barium, beryllium, cadmium, chromium, cobalt, copper, gallium, gold, iron, lead, manganese, mercury, palladium, selenium, silver and zinc. If you want to recycle computer scrap by yourself it is important to know that antimony, arsenic, cadmium, chromium, cobalt, lead, mercury and selenium are hazardous and they are controlled by Federal laws in the USA.

Because of all economic aspect for production industry it is a very good business to recycle these materials, especially precious metals from electronic scrap. These materials will always be needed inside electronics and it is easier to recycle them from old electronic parts than mining them from the earth.

Circuit boards have the highest precious metal value which means that PC is full of the precious metals inside. One metric ton of circuit boards contains in between 80 and 1.500 grams of gold and 160 to 210 kilograms of copper. Circuit boards inside PC represent motherboard, all kind of PCI cards, network card, graphic cards etc. These are the places where you can find the highest value of recoverable gold and other metals that you can easily sell.
